I am a medical doctor and scientist specialized in Space Medicine. The Musculoskeletal System in Space Flight is my main field of research. I am also a medical specialist in Physiology, Sport Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
After graduating from Lübeck University, I started my career in the Center for Space Medicine in Charité University Berlin, where I was involved in Space Medicine and Dinosaur Research projects. The next step was Cologne University Hospital: I completed Basic Training in Trauma Surgery. This was followed by three years in the Institute of Aerospace Medicine of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), serving as “Head Medical Doctor” for bedrest studies, and exploring musculoskeletal adaptation in several large international research studies. I completed my residency in Physiology at DLR in 2014, became an Emergency and Sport Physician.
I am currently in the final year of my second residency in the Department of Orthopaedic Trauma in RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Part of my work is to organize and give a weekly Space Medicine lecture series for students. The content of the lectures and much more space knowledge has been published in a book.
Any questions? I am always looking for new collaborations and opportunities in the field, and I offer consulting for medical and life science questions in Space Flight. Let’s get in touch!
